My drive isn't detected
If Pyro says "No drive", try these in order:
- Cable and hub. Plug the drive straight into your Mac, or into a powered hub. Try another cable or port.
- Power. The Apple USB SuperDrive and many slim drives take their power from the USB port. Connect them to the Mac itself or to a hub or display that provides enough power; some drives need a second USB plug or their own power adapter.
- Does macOS see it? Open System Information and choose Disc Burning, or look for the drive in Disk Utility. If neither lists it, macOS can't see the drive, so the problem is the connection or the drive itself.
The disc can't be written to
CD-R and DVD-R discs can be written only once. If a disc has already been burned and closed, use a new blank disc. Rewritable discs (CD-RW, DVD±RW) can be erased first: choose File › Erase Disc….
Which discs can I use?
- Data discs and disc images: blank CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and dual-layer DVDs if your drive supports them.
- Audio CDs: blank CD-R work in almost every player. CD-RW discs don't play in many older players.
- Blu-ray isn't supported.
A file is "over 4 GB"
Data discs use a format that can't hold a single file of 4 GB or more. Split the file, or burn it as part of a disc image instead.
My track titles don't show on the CD player
Pyro writes track titles as CD-Text when your drive can. Many players, especially older or cheaper ones, don't display CD-Text. The music plays either way.
macOS asks what to do with a blank disc
If macOS shows its own dialog when you insert a blank disc, choose Ignore. To stop it appearing, open System Settings, search for "CDs & DVDs", and set blank discs to Ignore.
Can I stop a burn?
Yes, but a disc stopped part-way through is usually unusable. Erasing can't be stopped once it starts.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Pyro has no internet access. See the privacy policy.
